Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia
Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia (BCANS) is an organization of survivors and supporters that focuses on the concerns and needs of those affected by breast cancer through support, education, networking and advocacy. Our objectives are to: (1) heighten awareness of breast cancer as a major health issue; (2) provide and promote support services that meet the unique needs of those affected by breast cancer; (3) encourage more informed communication with the health care teams; (4) provide and promote education about breast health; (5) develop a support community of people affected by breast cancer. Our programming and resources include peer-to-peer support for breast cancer patients, Live Pink Teen Breast Health Program, public presentations for the general public, comfort pillows for mastectomy and lumpectomy patients, the Nova Scotia Breast Cancer Resource Directory which is given to every newly diagnosed breast cancer patient in Nova Scotia, the only breast cancer support group in the Halifax Regional Municipality (Pink Panthers), Atlantic Breast Cancer Net, the Rosanna Bechtel Memorial Library, education talks, and much more. This GivingTuesday we are calling for the generous community to donate to our organization to help fund our programming and resources, and help us continue to support those who are affected by breast cancer while at the same time educating and inspiring the public to reduce their breast cancer risk through promoting healthy lifestyles. We are also a largely volunteer-driven organization and would greatly appreciate anyone who is interested in giving back to their community by volunteering with us! We will be involved on social media using #GivingTuesday, promoting the movement as well as our cause.
