Langley Forest School
We are working to provide meaningful nature experiences for local children. From watching a sparrow lay her eggs and exploring creepy crawly critters; experiencing what tree moss smells and feels like; and, listening to and learning the songs of different birds. A child’s world is new and fresh and full of wonder and excitement. Children are born with a natural affinity towards nature. Dirt, water, plants, and small animals attract and hold their attention for hours, days, and sometimes a lifetime. We believe that teaching children about the natural world should be seen as one of the most important events in their lives. Today’s children are spending less time outside and more time indoors consumed in technology-driven activities. The hurried pace of society is deleting play, especially outdoor play, from the childhood experience. Our program reconnects children with the environment while teaching them the importance of community and sustainability. We believe that the most important gift you can give children is the simplest and least expensive of all. It is the sheer time, opportunity, and joy of being a child exploring the natural world. This fosters the healthy, creative and emotional growth of a child and forms the best foundation for later intellectual growth. It provides a way for children to get to know the world and creates unlimited possibilities, fosters empathy and most important, wonder.
