Kitchen Smidgen, a bakery in St Marys Ontario, donated 100% of sales on GivingTuesday to VON, Perth-Huron Stratford, Specialized Palliative Care Nursing and Volunteer Services. Last year the bakery created and sold moustache cookies on GivingTuesday, raising more than $1,200 for the Movember campaign.

Enbridge, in honour of their 70th anniversary, for each employee #UNselfie posted on GivingTuesday, contributed $70 to food banks in communities across North America, resulting in up to $250,000 of contributions.

Le Cartel Clothing offered one beanie hat for every sale made from Nov 26-Dec 3. Beanies were sent to Dans La Rue for distribution to homeless youth.

Best Buy - for GivingTuesday Best Buy and Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada teamed up on a  social media campaign and the company made a donation for every social media post.

Sobey’s teams up with Feed Nova Scotia each year, offering a matching program for donations received on GivingTuesday. Last year Feed Nova Scotia received 20 times more donations compared to a typical day in December, raising a total of more than $100,000 on GivingTuesday. As a result they were able to distribute over 6,300 Christmas produce hampers, 4,400 turkeys, and 1,800 chickens to member food banks across the province during the holiday season.

Wilson's Home Heating did their annual hug campaign, with street teams in Halifax that gave hugs throughout the day on GivingTuesday. For each hug Wilson's donated $10 to one of three local charities chosen by the person getting the hug. The activity was very popular with the public and attracted great media attention. In the past three years the hug campaign has raised over $34,000 for local charities.

Sherwood Ford - on GivingTuesday teamed up with Strathcona Christmas Bureau, collecting goods for youth aged 9-17 and adults. They attracted attention by using a giant truck to collect the goods #StuffAGiantTruck for #GivingTuesdayCa !

Viatec Food Bank Challenge, in Victoria, used GivingTuesday to amplify its Food Bank Challenge in support of the Mustard Seed. The challenge united technology companies all over the city to bring in a total of $128,320.88 for the Mustard Seed.

Sparkling Life Family Chiropractic, a small practice in Nelson, BC, offered free adjustments in exchange for food donations for The Nelson Food Cupboard. They also collected $200 in donations for Chiropractic for the World Foundation. The patients loved celebrating GivingTuesday!

GLOBAL GivingTuesday examples

TMOBILE On #GivingTuesday T-Mobile celebrated by running a three tiered campaign for T-Mobile customers, employees and the general public. Through a T-Mobile app, customers received $2 to give to a choice of 4 nonprofits, T-Mobile employees received $28 in their Giving Account to donate to any charity of their choice, and for anyone that tweeted #GivingTWOgether on #GivingTuesday, T-Mobile donated $2 to split between the 4 nonprofits up to $100,000.

JETBLUE In the weeks leading up to #GivingTuesday, JetBlue, in an effort to encourage customers to give back, setup mock check-in kiosks in surprise locations. People were encouraged to answer short questionnaires about what ‘good’ they have to declare at one of the JetBlue kiosks, or online at jetbluecheckinforgood.com. Based on individual responses, entrants were matched to causes aligning with JetBlue For Good’s three key pillars – youth and education, community and the environment – and placed on “standby” for an opportunity to win a seat on one of 3 volunteer trips departing around #GivingTuesday

American Eagle Outfitters Following Cyber Monday, on #GivingTuesday American Eagle USA donated $1 for every transaction made on www.ae.com up to $50,000 for Teach for America. The company promoted this campaign on its social channels and reported that engagement on their #GivingTuesday tweet received higher traffic compared to their regular sales tweets sent between December 1st and December 6th.

XTIVA FINANCIAL SYSTEMS On their first #GivingTuesday XTIVA, a remote financial services tech company, set a goal for 100% of staff to give at least 1 hour of their time to a cause important to them. XTIVA encouraged employees to take time away from their home offices and give back to the community. Management was overwhelmed with stories from employees about their experiences delivering goods and services to those in need, packing meals for the homeless, making monetary donations, and more!


GOFUNDME  celebrated kid heroes who inspire grownups to get up, look beyond ourselves, and treat others as we wish to be treated. In the weeks leading up to #GivingTuesday and throughout the holiday season, GoFundMe highlighted hundreds of kid heroes on their site and put together a special guide for parents and caregivers with expert advice, tips, and activities for kid heroes. On #GivingTuesday GoFundMe gave $100,000 to kid heroes doing amazing things for their communities and beyond.

AMAZON delivered $15,000 in household goods and toys in Seattle and launched its #DeliveringSmiles campaign on #GivingTuesday. The campaign provided over $500,000 in donations throughout December. Amazon also donated $1 to the National Alliance to End Homelessness for every mile a #DeliveringSmiles

From multi-national brands to small local retailers, businesses are getting behind GivingTuesday in Canada and around the world. Check out these examples of great GivingTuesday activities:

Gore Mutual last year asked their community to nominate their favourite charities for GivingTuesday - and they gave away $5,000 each to 10 selected charities = $50,000! They received nearly 400 charity nominations and 10 lucky charities received their grants on GivingTuesday!

Home Depot Canada, is tackling youth homelessness. From Dec 3-22, customers donated $2 at the checkout in their local store or on OrangeDoorProject.ca to support local youth through 121 charity partners. More than 200 Toronto associates also participated in volunteer activities at 10 charities to give back in December. The Home Depot Canada Foundation has pledged $50 million by the end of 2022 to support this cause.
