Association of Whistler Area Residents for the Environment (AWARE)

Our Story:

AWARE, Whistler’s environmental charity strives towards a vision of a knowledgeable community that is engaged and empowered to preserve and enhance the environment on which it depends. AWARE was formed in 1989 with the primary intent of bringing recycling to Whistler from there the organization quickly transformed into a key player in safeguarding Whistler’s diverse, local habitats and their species. Today, AWARE continues to protect Whistler’s wilderness backyard through representing the environment in local land management processes, connecting people with nature through projects and building a sustainable community by empowering individuals to pursue a more sustainable future.

We would like to invite you to be a part of our story.

For Giving Tuesday and throughout the holiday season AWARE hopes to raise $3000 to go towards increasing the charity’s ability to advocate for our local environment and we need your help! (If we exceed our fundraising goal any additional funds raised will go towards the development of future projects and programs).

Increasing our advocacy fund will allow AWARE to engage more deeply in local issues where the environment needs a voice. AWARE's current advocacy work includes ongoing engagement with the Cheakamus Community Forest, encouraging community waste reduction initiatives, as well as ensuring consideration of wildlife and habitat values in landscape level planning of road, trail and recreation footprints.

Please consider donating to AWARE (or another group in the Sea-to-Sky) as charities and non-profits in the corridor encourage local philanthropy through #SeatoSkyGives. Sharing talent, treasure or time for a cause close to your heart is a great way to get into the festive spirit and enjoy an alternative way of giving.
