Blue Wave Youth Mental Health Program; Canadian Mental Health Association, BC Division

Youth are facing unprecedented levels of mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, suicide and low self-esteem. Blue Wave is working to support the mental health of BC youth. We currently need funds for our new mental health skills course, Living Life to the Full. This course for 13-18 year olds teaches skills to cope with life’s challenges. It’s a course for all youth – with or without mental health issues - and is taught in small groups using booklets and activities. In 8 sessions it covers worry, depression, anxiety, anger, and low self-esteem. It teaches healthy thinking, problem-solving, confidence building - plus much more. In a recent study of BC youth, the skills taught were shown to improve well-being, self-esteem, social relationships, and the ability to cope with stress. It's a fantastic course and we want to deliver it to more communities across BC in 2015. Help us to help BC teens: - $50 provides a set of Living Life to the Full course booklets to a young person - $175 enables a young person to take the Living Life to the Full course, providing them with mental health coping skills that will last a lifetime. - $500 trains a young adult facilitator so that they can deliver the Living Life to the Full course to 100s of BC youth. "It was an amazing course. It will help you to boost your confidence and self-esteem, and improve your overall quality of life" - youth participant.
