Calgary Seniors' Resource Society

Christmas is a special time of year. Even with all of the shopping, family visits, parties and wrapping to get done there is no denying that spending a few hours around a table with those you love is worth it. Unfortunately, when we talk to our clients, isolated seniors, about the holidays they more often tell us they "stopped celebrating" Christmas years ago or they can't remember when they last received a gift. This is why we started Adopt a Grandparent Christmas Cheer Up, because we know seniors deserve to feel loved and appreciate, especially over the holidays. A visit from a volunteer and a stocking full of gifts just for them makes such a difference during an incredibly difficult time of year, and our staff are working as hard as they can to ensure we deliver as many gifts as possible in 2014. Christmas Cheer Up aims to deliver stockings and provide visits to 400 seniors this holiday and we are aiming to raise $100,000 through this program to ensure that not only do they have a Merry Christmas but that we are able to support them with our other critical volunteer services year round. We need your help: it will cost us $100 to deliver 1 bag to one senior but $1000 to support that senior for the rest of the year. There are thousands of seniors in our city right now who are struggling to get by, and with no friends or family they are at risk of falling through the cracks. Your support could ensure they get their first Christmas gift in years and more importantly, finally bring a friendly face to their door. Please give generously this Giving Tuesday to support Adopt a Grandparent and Calgary Seniors! Calgary Seniors provides a variety of innovative and creative services to support seniors, to end isolation, and to help them remain safe and independent in their homes as long as possible. We make a difference one senior at a time.
