Temagami is internationally renowned for its rare old-growth red and white pine forests. Only 1% of these ancient forests are left worldwide, and more than half of what remains is located in Temagami.

The government is now in the process of planning for the next decade of logging in Temagami (2019-2029). Of great concern is the fact that there is currently no policy in place to protect more of the remaining old growth through forest management planning, and there is little acknowledgement of the important role these forests play in fighting climate change.
