Habitat for Humanity Sarnia/Lambton

Madison and Benjamin’s father died six years ago, and since then, their mom, Amy has done her best to provide for her children.  It’s been hard, though.  The home they live in is mouldy and in need of repair.  They are exposed to violence, drug and alcohol abuse and bullying on a regular basis.  They long for a safe and decent home where they can laugh, play and learn.

Currently living paycheque to paycheque, budgeting their money so they can pay their rent, bills and put food on the table, Tyler and Rebecca want to build a better life.  Their infant son, Kaden, is their world and they don’t want him to grow up facing the same struggles they have.  Their apartment is cramped and lacks emergency exits.  It makes Tyler “sick to think of what could happen” if there was ever a fire.

These two local families will purchase the homes being built on Scenic Drive in Watford. Partnering with Royal Homes, Habitat for Humanity Sarnia/Lambton broke ground in November. The foundation and basements will be constructed, then in December, the "shell" of the homes will be set on the foundation. The site will then be shut down for the winter and activity will resume when weather permits with volunteer teams working alongside the families to complete the homes.

We are thrilled to announce that these homes are two of 150 that are being built across the country as part of the 2017 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project for Habitat for Humanity. The build will be complete by July 14, 2017.
