The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery

The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery is Canada’s leading non-collecting, public art gallery dedicated exclusively to contemporary visual art from Canada and the world. It is a vital forum for the advanced artistic culture of our time that offers an exceptional facility and professional support to a diverse group of living artists while engaging equally diverse audiences. The Power Plant’s vision is to be a leading international centre for contemporary art, renowned for its global vision and special commitment to groundbreaking contemporary Canadian art and widely supported as essential to the cultural infrastructure in Toronto, Ontario, and Canada.

The Power Plant is an institution that is in perpetual progress, presenting the works of living Canadian and international artists to Toronto and Ontario audiences. Art in the 21st century will be designed to shape our values and views of the world, beyond the boundaries of city and country. Reaching a culturally diverse audience by pairing Canadian with international artists and subject matter and positioning the gallery in the dialogue of local and global contemporary art practices is therefore crucial to The Power Plant. The gallery is therefore committed more then ever to furthering the dialogue around contemporary practices through exhibitions, education, public programs and cultural events, as well as creating an environment in which diverse audiences can readily access contemporary art. The Power Plant’s offers free admission and open access to the public to all exhibitions. Programming for children, families and youth includes Power Kids, free guided tours paired with art workshops inspired by current exhibitions, and the brand new outreach program Power Youth, which provides free contemporary art programming to youth from priority neighborhoods. From weekly talks, to premieres of films or performances, to lectures and symposiums, The Power Plant continuously seeks to connect the public with visual arts beyond the gallery walls.

The gallery is happy to share the message for #GivingTuesday, and hopes this initiatives would help The Power Plant continue building a strong community around art and to act as a community builder itself, bridging the art world with other cultural spheres, societies and industries in Canada!
