The U of G prepares for GivingTuesday!

Giving Tuesday Buttons

The University of Guelph is getting ready to host a “Giving Fair” on campus for GivingTuesday. Local charities, organizations and business owners alike will be in attendance to promote volunteer opportunities, charitable giving and to celebrate the opening day of the giving season as a community. The U of G’s on-campus food bank will be collecting non-perishable food items in an effort to combat hunger and poverty on campus. U of G grad Jakki Prince of Sweet Temptations Cupcakery will be donating 30% of revenue from the Giving Fair bake sale to the student food bank (yum!). There will also be a number of other on-campus student groups at the fair promoting the opportunities for students to get involved and give back on campus.

GivingTuesday is being hosted by the U of G’s Alumni Affairs & Development team, and we’ve been working hard to promote the event within the campus and local communities, by preparing email invitations for faculty and staff to attend the Giving Fair, putting up posters on campus, and identifying social media ambassadors to help to generate the buzz in the digital world. Using both the hashtags #GivingTuesdayCA and #UofGgives, we’re encouraging the Guelph community to join the social media conversations and share how they’re getting involved on GivingTuesday!

The U of Guelph is also running a text-to-give campaign through the Mobile Giving Foundation Canada to raise funds to support the University’s The BetterPlanet Project, a $200-million fundraising campaign that will accelerate change in areas the U of G excels: Food, Environment, Health and Communities through investments in teaching, learning, research, facilities, and of course student financial aid. Text GTUofG to 20222 to make a $10 donation to the U of G’s The BetterPlanet Project!

We’ve also been busy preparing some fun swag and these “I gave on GivingTuesday!” stickers and buttons to give away.

The countdown is on, and the U of G couldn't be more excited!
