Regina Proclaims December 2, 2014 GivingTuesday

Michael Fougere, Mayor of the City of Regina has officially proclaimed December 2, 2014 GivingTuesday – the first municipality in Canada to do so in 2014. Last year, more than 10,000 partners took part in GivingTuesday globally. GivingTuesday is a first of its kind effort that harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners—charities, families, businesses and individuals—to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. Coinciding with the kickoff of the holiday shopping season, GivingTuesday inspires people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, and give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they care about. In the same way that Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become North America’s biggest shopping days, GivingTuesday harnesses the power of social media to create a national movement around the holidays dedicated to giving.

This year, the GivingTuesday movement is building swiftly in Regina. LEAVE A LEGACY South Saskatchewan has been leading the charge, inviting the non-profit community and their supporters to join the initiative in an announcement on their website. The success of GivingTuesday depends on the collective efforts of a unique group of partners and their participation. The City of Regina has done their part by Proclaiming December 2nd, 2014 as Giving Tuesday in the City of Regina.
