Signs of Hope in Africa

Signs of Hope in Africa employs local women from the village of Jambiani, Zanzibar to prepare daily breakfast for over 800 pre-school and primary school students. This daily breakfast provides nutrition to the students so they can be creative, attentive and engage in their education rather than being distracted by hunger pangs and fatigue. These women are currently collecting wood and building an open fire to prepare the daily porridge. The availability of wood is dwindling and is not sustainable and the women are asking for an alternative to open fire cooking for the porridge. Signs of Hope in Africa is committed to providing an alternative cooking method. Solar cookers are much more sustainable, reduce the need to gather and use wood and are a much healthier option. This will significantly improve the air quality for these women in their working environment.
