The Period Purse

Leading up to Giving Tuesday 2019, The Period Purse and doug&partners, a Toronto agency, have launched #SayTheWordPeriod, a campaign that increases positive conversations about menstruation in everyday life.

Captivating audiences with creative and funny videos that repeat the word "period," the digital shorts also help enhance awareness about The Period Purse's commitment to bridging gaps in period poverty by increasing equal access to menstrual products.

While spreading the word about menstrual equity as Canada's first registered charity dedicated to the cause, The Period Purse is also building confidence and education through the Menstruation Nation program, an initiative that focuses on hosting period presentations in schools across the Toronto District School Board, while also driving donations.

As a foundational pillar, investing in menstrual education allows The Period Purse to continue to meet the needs of the community, while also providing youth, educators and guardians essential resources to help enforce the importance of period positivity, at home and at school, year-round.

This holiday season, The Period Purse is collecting vital funds to tackle two critical action items:

- Developing Menstruation Nation and Sharing Knowledge About Reusable Period Products: Your generous donation this Giving Tuesday will support The Period Purse as the organization increases accessibility to reusable period products, providing resources users will need to understand how to use these materials in a continuously healthy way.

- Bringing Period Products to People Experiencing Homelessness: The Period Purse is now supporting 530 people who menstruate living in Toronto shelters, providing them with an often forgotten about basic need - period products. Over the holidays, your generous donation will help make these deliveries possible.

This is a breakdown of estimated costs to fulfill these action items, as well as suggested donation amounts that can make life-changing impacts this Giving Tuesday:

- It costs approximately $15.00 to make one delivery from The Period Purse to a community partner.

- On average, it costs about $20.00 for one reusable period underwear and an estimated $40.00 for a reusable menstrual cup.

Be sure to share news about The Period Purse on Giving Tuesday to help us inspire others to make change. Thank you for your ongoing support and happy holidays.
