YES Shelter for Youth and Families

The YES Shelter for Youth and Families works to reduce and prevent homelessness by providing shelter, education and transitional supports for youth and families in Peterborough and the Kawarthas. We are the only youth and family shelter in the area and as a result, our resources are often stretched. We want to ensure, however, that all youth and families in our community are supported to lead full and positive lives, recognizing that this starts with safe and affordable housing. Our supports extend beyond the emergency shelter to the provision of a variety of programs and services including; longer-term transitional housing; support with a youth-in-transition worker; assistance adapting to independent living through transitional life skills; employment skills training and searches; alternative high school education at The Carriage House; and a food cupboard for current and past clients. In addition to serving homeless youth within the community, we also provide emergency housing for families, offering guidance and assistance in the family’s search for housing, employment, or acquiring social services benefits. Since YES opened in 2002, YES has served more than 4100 clients. We serve about 250 new clients every year, in addition to many of those who may have moved out of the shelter but still use some of our services. Please consider donating to the YES during this holiday season.
