The alliance for equality of blind Canadians is a National grassroots Organization promoting inclusion, and accessibility for all blind, deafblind and partially sighted individuals. It is important to understand that all Canadians have the right to participate fully in society as we go about our everyday lives. For the past 27 years, our advocacy goals and objectives have promoted the full inclusion of blind, deafblind, and partially sighted Canadians in all aspects of society. Through its public education, peer support, training opportunities, and public awareness activities, the AEBC and its members have accomplished a great deal. For this campaign, we hope you will be able to understand the need for a fully accessible website and how it is used extensively to share information between our membership, supporters and potential partners as well as the general public. How can you help during the Giving Tuesday campaign? From November 27,and every Tuesday until end of December, we are counting on your generous donations so we can achieve one of our goals which is to raise enough funds to begin the project of rebuilding and upgrading our website. It has been brought to our attention that we will need at least $20,000to accomplish this goal. Keep in mind the specialized skills we are required to find to make sure the site is fully accessible to blind, deafblind and partially sighted Canadians are unique. While this concept sounds simple enough, it presents many challenges along the way for folks who use screen readers or other adaptive programs in order to use a computer or other electronic devices. Many special accommodations must be addressed when constructing a website which can be considered fully accessible and inclusive for all blind, deafblind and partially sighted Canadians. It is important for our supporters to understand that we can achieve our goals provided we are given the opportunities to overcome the barriers which we work so diligently to remove. Much like all of you, we wish to participate equally in every aspect of Society as it pertains to day-to-day living. This means everyone should always have the same advantages. Think of what it would be like if you were denied the opportunity using the Internet to its full capacity, since it is a major vehicle utilized and heavily depended upon to conduct business , play games, find a recipe or perhaps simply read the newspaper. We are proposing to make certain our website is fully accessible to anyone who may be faced with needing additional accommodations as we want them to experience the same quality of services enjoyed by the rest of society. Since the inception of our existing website, we have not had the opportunity to make necessary changes needed to upgrade it, due to financial restrictions. As a registered charity, we rely on the generosity of our donors to provide funds which assist with our day to day operations however, this particular project has taking a backseat for far too long and now must be addressed before it becomes unsustainable. Please note, as you may have tools of your own which you depend on to communicate, our website is considered the most important vehicle to share information, gain knowledge and inform the public who are and what we do. However, without your help we will not be in a position to move forward with our project. We would like you to take this opportunity to consider supporting us in our efforts to remove so many barriers we face on a day-to-day basis. We sincerely thank you for your support, we hope you find comfort in the knowledge that you have helped many folks who may have struggled to reach their goals, due to the inequality of how websites are developed. Remember, we all have abilities, we need to be afforded the opportunity to participate on a level playing field so we can all be included.
