Association of Whistler Area Residents for the Environment (AWARE)

Our Story:

AWARE, Whistler’s environmental charity strives towards a vision of a knowledgeable community that is engaged and empowered to preserve and enhance the environment on which it depends. AWARE was formed in 1989 with the primary intent of bringing recycling to Whistler from there the organization quickly transformed into a key player in safeguarding Whistler’s diverse, local habitats and their species. Today, AWARE continues to protect Whistler’s wilderness backyard through representing the environment in local land management processes, connecting people with nature through projects and building a sustainable community by empowering individuals to pursue a more sustainable future.

By donating to groups like AWARE you become a part of our story.

For Giving Tuesday and throughout the holiday season AWARE hopes to raise $3000 to go towards increasing the charity’s ability to advocate for our local environment and we need your help!

The advocacy fund helps us make sure nature has a voice - the fund allows us to engage in local issues relating to resource use (energy, waste, water use), species, specific habitats (from old forests to alpine ecosystems) and land use strategy (e.g. inputting into development proposals or policy). In 2018, a significant portion of our advocacy efforts were spent ensuring nature was well represented in Whistler's Official Community Plan and updated Vision - which will guide community decision making for years to come.

Help us continue to give nature a voice by committing to donate this festive season! There are a number of ways to give:
  • - Make a one time donation
  • - Support AWARE's work year round by setting up a monthly donation
  • - Commit your business to supporting AWARE's work thorough a corporate donation
At the end of each year we issue tax receipts for all donations exceeding $25.

Please consider donating to AWARE (or another group in the Sea-to-Sky) as charities and non-profits in the corridor encourage local philanthropy through #SeatoSkyGives. Sharing talent, treasure or time for a cause close to your heart is a great way to get into the festive spirit and enjoy an alternative way of giving.
