Child & Youth Advocacy Centre of Simcoe/Muskoka

We know that when a child or youth finds the courage to disclose physical or sexual abuse, the investigative process can be scary and intimidating. Here at the CYAC, we provide a child and youth friendly, safe space to share their story one time with professionals. This multidisciplinary best practice aims to reduce trauma and promotes improved mental health.

Children's voices will be heard... help us make it happen.

The disclosure process is one of the most frightening and yet brave things a child or youth can do.  Now more than ever, young people have less access to someone safe to tell.

We’ve seen the statistics and the daily impact of COVID-19 across Canada, in our communities, and within our families.  The impact of COVID-19 is affecting children and youth in more ways than just social isolation.

As we are told to stay home in order to keep safe; staying home is not always safe for children and youth. The pandemic has created the perfect storm. Social isolation, virtual learning and the closure of many children’s programs creates increased risk for children living with people who are unsafe. Barriers to accessing safe adults such as teachers, mental health and medical professionals make the identification and reporting of abuse much more difficult.

We need to share information across our communities in order to help prevent abuse, learn to identify it, and know how and where to report it.

Beginning on December 1st and ending January 1st, 2021 help us reach our goal of $5000. All donations will go directly to our children/youth program.
