Ethiopiaid Canada

In Afar, a region in eastern Ethiopia, there are only 50 midwives working to serve a population over 4M. Right now 1 in every 140 expectant mothers dies during childbirth. Yet just one trained midwife can safely deliver 100 newborns and provide care to 500 expectant mothers.  Change is possible.

For Giving Tuesday, our goal is to raise $5,550 to fully train two midwives

Aisha Ebade, pictured here, is currently enrolled in Samara Health Science College as part of Ethiopiaid Canada's commitment to support the training of midwives in Afar. Aisha will receive 3 years of training, with a mix of classroom learning and training in a clinical setting at local health facilities and maternity wards.

Please donate now. Anything you give will improve the situation in Afar.

When we met with Aisha, she said "Before, I had no knowlege about maternal and newborn healthcare, especially midwifery skills. Without this program, I would have never gained such an opportunity. I am learning how to assess pregnant mothers, how to assist mothers that need first aid and how to work with others ethically."

This Giving Tuesday, help us improve the health of women and newborns in our global community.
Ethiopiaid Canada is a registered Canadian charity dedicated to the empowerment of women and girls in Ethiopia. We are a small team of two staff, several volunteers and a mighty impact. Donations this Giving Tuesday will help us reach our goal of training a cohort of 16 midwives each year, in partnership with Amref Health Africa in Afar.

We are working hard to secure matched funding so every dollar you give will go even further.

Thank you for your support!
