Winter is upon us and the days are getting shorter and darker. This year will be particularly hard for immigrant and refugee women.

As the second COVID wave hits, seasonal depression, pandemic anxiety, and financial insecurity are increasing. PIRS is responding by delivering supports that remove barriers for immigrant and refugee women and children.

This Holiday Season, we are raising $45,000 to increase our reach!

When we reached out to participants, they told us they’re struggling with increased family responsibilities and financially, to meet their family’s basic needs. While higher English level learners took to the new online environment easily, for our lower-level English participants, digital literacy became a huge barrier and they struggled to access benefits and support.

Now more than ever, our participants need support to cope and navigate the difficult months ahead. PIRS’s 1-1 outreach support, digital literacy education training, and the emergency food hubs are breaking down barriers and increasing access for newcomer women and their families.
