The Refuge

Homeless youth feel alone, unloved and hopeless. An estimated 10,000 youth are homeless in Toronto each year and we see hundreds of homeless and street-involved youth at The Refuge. Sadly, 92% of youth at The Refuge have been physically or sexually abused in their lives.

The Refuge is a drop-in centre that has served almost 5,000 homeless and street youth from the Durham Region since 1999. The Refuge provides meals, showers, laundry and programs that encourage positive life-change to youth aged 16 -24 years. Most importantly, youth discover a sense of belonging and a caring community where they can begin the journey of healing.

Our mission is to demonstrate Jesus Christ's love and kindness to the youth of our community through practical and compassionate means of intervention and prevention.

We would like to invite you to become a monthly partner or make a donation on GivingTuesday to help homeless youth begin a journey of healing, discover hope and know that they are loved.

Thank you for being a part of The Refuge community!
